Audience and Institution Essay

Discuss the way audience consumption has changed over time
Media type : Music

Today in the twenty-first century anything we want to do or know is at the touch of our fingerprints.
Any movie or TV show we want to watch can be found in minutes. The same thing can be said about
music. Any song or album we can easily find whenever and wherever. In the last 150 years the ways music
is consumed by audiences have changed in many ways. From the phonograph in 1877, to vinyl records
in 1948, to present day music streaming services such as Apple Music and Spotify, music consumption
has become more quick and efficient for audiences.
In 1877  Thomas Eddison created a machine called the phonograph. This device could record sound and then play it back. The music receiver was made from a tin cylinder wrapped in foil and a very small membrane called the diaphragm, which was attached to a needle. Sound waves were directed into the diaphragm, making it vibrate. The vibrations would play back the recorded sound. This was thefirst way to listen to non - live music. Since then music consumption has become modernized like everything else in the world. We can use audio streaming services to look up any song or album within seconds. Let's look at the popular music streaming service, Spotify for an example. Spotify wasfounded in 2006 by Daniel Ek and Martin Lorentzon in Stockholm, Sweden. Since then Spotify has become the most popular audio streaming service company world-wide. Globally Spotify has 286 million users which includes 130 million subscribers across 79 markets. In the last year the Spotify stock has been in a high demand. The company has made a gross profit of nearly 490 million dollars and 1.92 billion in revenue, passing all other audio streaming services. These audio streaming service companies have changed the way we consume music.  Compacts disks or CDs sales have decreased 18.5 % in the last year. More and more people are going away from buying music and moving towards streaming it instead. Therefore our consumption rates are changing constantly.
Not only has our ways of consumption changed but also the ways artists get compensation has changed as well. As stated from a case study done by Benjamin Fly, University of Arkansas 2016 “ In many cases, the prominence of the royalty is changing dramatically in response to the new era ofstreaming as a relevant method of music consumption." Instead of only receiving a percentage of record sales or radio revenues, artists are now entitled to collect their earnings based on the number of plays they receive from each streaming service.” Seeing how artists' compensations have changed allows us to understand how much music consumption has changed over the years.  Going back to my Spotify example, Spotify pays an artist about $0.006 to $0.0084 every time their song is streamed. An artist withone million streams would get around $6000 to $8400. Spotify gets much of its revenue from monthly subscribers and their subsidiaries. Spotify is a conglomerate to many music recording companies.
Companies like Spotify are revolutionizing the way we listen and consume music. Like everything else in this world, music consumption will continue to change and modernize. Audiostreaming services popularity and profit will only continue to go up and grow. We are living in an era that is going away from hard- copies of music. We as a society should embrace the change and recognize that music consumption will always continue to be changing and improving.

Extract : 24

Extract Essay : 24
The extract I chose to do was 24. The extract shows a girl named Nina being held for questioning.
She has information on a bomb that is going to blow. There is one guy that is questioning her. The room
they are in is being watched by people in another room. They have a secret camera inside the questioning
room. The author's view when creating this extract was that he wanted these scenes to be intense. He
wanted the audience to feel suspense while watching. He was able to build suspense and add intense
moments by using certain camera angles and movements, editing techniques, and mis en scene.
The first scene in the extract has no dialogue. The main characters are just looking at one another. There
is a slow and deep sound playing behind which is the non- diegetic sound.  The camera does extreme
close-ups for both of the characters. This entire scene is shot using the closeups.  The cameraman is
doing shot- reverse- shots between the two characters as they are looking at each other.  There are also
a few zoom-ins onto Nina and the other character which the camera goes from close-ups to extreme
close-ups. The close-ups in the scene make it very intense, more so than a mid or long shot would.
This contributes to the author's main view of creating an intense scene for the audiences.
The second scene is the extract does have dialogue. They are talking about the bomb. Nina has
a contact who knows when the bomb will blow up. Like the first scene majority or the scene is shot
using close-ups on the characters, but there are a few mid-shots as well. While they are talking there is
an over-the shoulder shot used. Similar to the first scene there are quite a few shot- reverse- shots as
well as a pan in the scene.  In scene two the intensity from scene one has followed by continuing to use
the close-up technique. The dialogue is very serious and slow. This adds more the suspense and intensity
that the author hoped to accomplish when creating the extract.
The third and final scene in the extract is similar to the first two scenes. The dialogue in this scene
follows the dialogue from the previous scene. The close-up and shot reverse shot techniques
are continued. The same non- diegetic sound that was used in scene one is brought back into this scene.
There is a two shot and a long shot used as well. This was the only time in the extract that these shots
were used. Near the end of the scene there is a split screen. The split screen is played  right after Nina
gets pushed against the wall by the questioner. We can see the two main characters on the right hand
side and on the left are the people who were watching the questioning. We see them running towards the
room on the left hand side.  The split screen effect gives more depth and adds another layer to the scene.
Using a split screen rather than cross-cutting creates a better flow. The audience can watch the two things
going on at one time. Nina being thrown against the wall and the people running is an intense moment
in the scene that adds to the overall intensity of the extract.       The author’s view for when he was creating this extract was that they wanted it to be intense and a
little suspenseful. The author was able to accomplish this by using many different camera angles, editingtechniques and sound. The main aspect that helped create intensity was the use of close-ups and
the nondiegetic sound. Without the use of these two the extract would not have been as intense as it was.

Music Video

This is my music video I created with my parter Kol Bennett earlier in the year. This was my second major project. I created this around November and December of last year. We did it to the song Roar.

Movie

This is the movie I created with my partner Kol Bennett. This is our comedy film. This is our final exam project for our AICE media class. We created this about a month ago.

Critical Reflection Questions

This is my Critical Reflection Questions. When I was editing I didn't realize there was going to be a watermark on it. I had to screen record it as download the recording because the file was to large to download into google docs. I will be posting my comerical and music video as well since we are not sure how Cambridge will be grading our blogs. I found filming the CCR fairly easy since I have become more comfortable with editing softwares

Update on the Corana virus

Since my last blog that was posted last Thursday not much has changed. Everyone is still in quaratine. We are starting on our second week of online school. The government does not know how long we will have to stay in quaratine. They are saying we might have to saty in quaratine until summer. Along with everyone else I am hoping that is not true. During the summer is the chance to hang out with my friends everyday and go to the beach. I also travel and go to an overnight camp during the summer so I am hoping everthing blows over before then.  We all have to do our part and stay inside to help. The less we go out the faster things will get better.
Today is Monday and I will post another blog on the upcoming Thursday. On Wednesday I will be turing in my CCR questions. So my thursday blog will be about my CCR rather than more corana virus updates. Worldwide there are over one million confirmed cases of the corana. There are 340,000 cases and 10,000 deaths in the United States. The US has the highest number of confirmed cases.  The world at the moment is all freaked out since we have never experinced something like this. This pandemic will be stuff our grandchildren might read about in their history classes.  At the moment all we can do is stay inside and frequenlty wash our hands. I will continure blogging about my journey with the outbreak.

Corana virus update

This blog will is an update with all of the corona virus stuff. I haven't posted a blog in about a week and a half since last week was my spring break. Our schools have been canceled until at May 1. All non- essential business are shut down and all of our end of year testing has also been cancelled.  Even though our movie was our final exam my teacher will still be grading it. I will still be writing more blogs.  My CCR questions are due next week so soon I will be publishing a CCR blog. Since schools are closed all students are doing an online schooling program. We don't know how long until things go to back normal. The government is hoping all before summer begins.
Last blog I said I would be talking about the effect COV1D-19 on the film industry in general. Multiple movies have delayed their premieres until further notice. Movies such as Black Widow, Mulan and the Minions Movie. Multiple film festival have been cancelled or delayed. AMC movie theaters let go 26,000 of their employees worldwide.  Popular TV shows like Stranger Things and Grey's Anatomy have delayed the filming of their new seasons. The Tony Awards have been postponed.  Disney World and Disney Land has been closed. The last time the parks closes was the 9/11 attacks.  Many music festivals have been cancelled as well, such as the Coachella music festival.

Filming Blog 3

This blog I will be talking about the recent events that have occurred with the corona virus. Since I have finished the movie all further blogs will be regarding this subject. I must reach my minimum of nine filming and editing blogs hence the tittle of this blog. As of right now all schools in the state are closed until at least mid April. All state wide   testing has been cancelled for the year and we will be starting a virtual school program in two weeks. Everyone was told by the government to self quarantine until further notice. Most public places are closed as well as a travel ban to Europe.  The world right now is a little in a little bit of a shock since this has never really happened before. This virus is new and scientists are trying to learn about it. There are many things about COVID-19 that are still unknown.
Scientists know the virus mimics the flu in some way with the symptoms. Symptoms usually last from one to two weeks from what we know. With everyone being in quarantined there have been any shortages of products, especially hygiene and cleaning products. The best things we can do to avoid the virus is to not touch anyone or anything. Wash our hands frequently and practice social distancing.  Corona has had an effect on everything in world in some way. Many business' have had to shut down or lay off employee due to the drops in business. In my next blog I will go more into depth about the impact of COVID-19 on the film industry in particular. I mentioned in my last blog that I will be uploading my CCR soon. That blog should be up in a week or so.

Re Editing Blog

This is my re-editing blog. As I said in my previous blog there were very few re shots that had to be done. This included the fixing of the dialogue. Once we re shot those scenes it was very easy to add into our movie. I just had to add the new clip where we wanted it to be. Then you just delete the old clips and thats it. Our movie is now completely finished. The titles are in and all of the transitions are clear. The very last step is our CCR questions. These are  reflection questions so we can learn and grow.
I will go more into depth about the CCR questions in a blog solely regarding these questions. Based on the current circumstances with the corona virus everything right now has been changed in some way. My next blog I will go into depth about how the virus has effected my journey with the movie. I will be talking about the changes that have been made school ways. Luckily for me and my partner our movie was finished before anything serious occurred. Some other students might be having a harder time if they didn't complete their film yet. In upcoming blogs I will continue to track my process. I will talk about the effects of the virus on the film industry.  The virus is unlike anything we have seen before and we must keep updated with the news.

Re Shooting Blog

This is my re-shoot blog. After my peer review the person who peer reviwed gave us some critism in order to make our movie better. After our editing we noticed there were a few things that needed to be re shoot. There wasnt't a ton thought. First we had to re shoot our scenes with dialouge. We will be filming these dialouges on our phone then do a voice over. This will be easier then complety reshooting the scences. There were two major scenes with dialouge that we needed to do. We filmed this scences last week.
When we filmed the dialouge we said the words into my phone microphone. Then we imprted though sounds into IMovie to add into our movie. When we were editing we did have to re arrange some of the scenes into a different order. But we did not have to re shoot anything less.  Besides those dialouge scences there wasnt anything else we needed to reshoot. We were very through when filming the first time. We made sure everything was clear and we got all of the footage we needed.  Our movie is basically all finished. We don't have anything else major to add to the film.

Editing Blog 2

This is my second editing blog. The first editing blog I posted I haven’t done very much editing. This blog I will talking more about the editing process.  At first we started editing on Pinnacle Studios. Pinnacle Studios is the editing software that comes with our school computers. It is not the best software, it is very slow and outdated. So we started on editing on Pinnacle Studios, but then we decided to edit on another software , IMovie. IMovie was just so much easier and simpler to use. And with this software we can use it straight from our phones while with Pinnacle Studios we have to use the same computer every time. Which makes it more difficult
When the entire movie was edited we ended up having more then the two minute maximum. We were actually almost at four minutes. We ended up cutting everything after the the two minute mark. We also added all of our titles. During our peer review we didn’t have our titles in but it is a important requirement. The titles were fairly simple to add into.  We have a few more re-edits then we are done with our movie basically. I will be creating more blogs to reach my number of twelve. My next blog will probably be a reshooting or an re editing. Stay tuned

Peer Review Blog

Last class our class did a peer review.  A peer review is when someone else watches our movie and gives us  critiques. This is a way for students our age can look at our work. We were all randomly assigned a person who peer reviewed our movie and another person that I reviewed. While reviewing I filled out a worksheet.  The worksheet in included below. This worksheet includes questions about the movie. Some of the questions included if they met all of the title requirements or the about different angles. The two most important questions were : what can they improve on  and what did they do well. The movie I reviewed was called Into the Sunrise.
The movie I peer reviewed had all of the correct titles and met majority of the angle requirements. The editing was very clean. The person I reviewed did a good job of creating the beginning of a story. The lighting was also very clear. There were a few things though that could have been a little better. For example he had absolutely no dialogue in the film. Also although he had all of the correct titles but they were in the incorrect order. The music he choose was not a copyright free. He choose a popular song. He can not use this song unless he gets permission from the artist, The Weekend.  Overall his film was very good.

Editing Blog 1

Last class my partner and I stated editing our movie. We have to get as much done as possible since we have our peer review soon. The peer review is where our fellow classmates look at our work and give constructive comments. We need to have majority of the movie done so they have enough to review. The groups are randomly assigned by our teacher. I will be uploading a peer review blog as well. The peer review will be next Tuesday March the 5th. If I don’t have anything for my classmate to review I will get the zero in my grade book.  So it is very important for us to get our work done.
Me and my partner filmed on my phone instead of the camera. Since we did though we have to email all of the videos to ourselves and download them. This took a while because at school there is not good service. Once we downloaded them we could then import our footage onto the editing software, Pinnacle Studios. We were able to get the first 3 scenes done. The rest will be done on our next class on Friday. Then the rest will be done over the weekend.  I am going to try very hard to get everything done tomorrow in class since I don’t want to spend my weekend editing.  Once we do the peer review I will do a reshoots. I will also do re edits.

Filming blog 2

This is our second filming blog. For our movie I will have twelve different blogs along the way. These blogs are tracking our progress. I have already done one filming blog. There has to be a minimum of three filming blog and three editing blogs. My first filming blog I talked about my filming experience. Me and my partner filmed all of the footage we need last weekend. Next class we will begin the editing process. We need to get majority of the editing done since next week on the fifth we are doing a peer review.
Since we were able to film everything already I haven't bee doing much. I have not started editing yet but I will be starting next class. Once me and my partner start editing we can see if we need to do any re shoots. We won't be able to re shoot until after editing. My third filming blog will be similar to this blog. My next blog will most likely be a editing blog. My third filming blog will come later on in the process. I will be posting a new blog every Monday and Thursday. Each blog will also contain a photo.

Filming blog 1

Now that we are done with all of the planning and researching we are now onto filming. We have twelve  more blogs until we are fished  with our movie. These blogs include our filming, editing, re shoots and re edits. We will also be doing a peer review. We also have three more blogs that are open for us to do whatever we want.  This is our first filming blog. Last Thursday the 13th of February we checked out a camera from our teacher so we can film over the weekend. We wanted to get our filming done as so it could just get it out of the way. We were planning on filming on Sunday but it didn't work out. So we filmed on Monday the 17th since we had the day off of school.
We were filming at my house since that is where the robbery takes place. Kol, my partner, arrived at my house around eleven in the morning. We ended up finishing and getting all of the footage we needed on Monday. It took us about two hours. We will still have to do re shoots, but we won't do that until after we start editing. That way we can see what footage we have and what we have to re shoot. For majority of the film I filmed. Kol was the actor. I only acted in a few scenes. I used the video camera and filmed all of the scenes I was not in.

Planning : Storyboard

This is our final planning blog. This is our storyboard. The storyboard is a plan for how our movie is going to be. We will be going scene by scene and explaining what is happening. It has where all the titles will be and the acting in each scene. Our storyboard is ten pages. We are putting the storyboard pictures in a google slide presentation for your convince. It is easier to read the storyboard in a presentation then individual uploaded pictures which we have done before. The storyboard also allows us to stay on track and focus on our movie.

Monday, February 10, 2020

Planning : Titles Design

This is our fourth planning blog. In this blog I will be discussing the titles designs and how they enter and where they are shown on screen. Some of the titles designs include the font we choose and the size.  We will be using a font we found online called Lobster . We will be using this font in a size thirty. This is a little bit of a smaller font so the thirty size is a good size.  The next planning blog will be our storyboard. This will be our final planning blog and then next we will begin the filming process. The filming process will take us about a week. After filming we will be able to edit and make these titles prominent.

Planning Blog : Safety , Location, Participates, & Schedule

This is another planning blog for our movie. This presentation includes our health and safety procedures that we will be following. I explained all the steps and precautions we will follow in order to ensure safety. This blog also includes our filming location. The location we are using is my house. I also included a schedule  in this presentation. This allows to have a time frame for our movie. We can track our progress and we make sure we are staying on track with following the given schedule. Lastly in this presentation I disclose the participants in our cast and crew.

Planning Blog : Sound and Dialogue Script.

Similar to the shooting script this is also a planning blog. This is our sound and dialogue script. Unlike the shooting script this in this we are including the speech. This script includes not only the dialogue but the sounds as well. This includes music and other sounds like ambient and digetic sounds. This fits the more standard way people think of a script. This presentation is shorter then the other one since we can fit multiple scenes in one slide. Here is our presentation.

Planning Blog : Shooting Script

After a lot of research we are finally starting to actually being the process of creating the movie. In this blog we are planting our movie. This presentation is our shooting script. The shooting script is the script for our movie but without dialogue. That might seem weird since scripts are usually  dialogue. This is the actions, whats going on in each scene. It is basically the storyboard for our movie but in written form. The actual storyboard blog will be coming soon. There are ten different scenes in our film. There are eight titles as well. Those are mentioned as well in the presentation.

Title Research: Zombieland

The final movie I researched was Zombie Land. Along with the other three movies I researched Zombie Land was also from Art of the Title. There were 15 titles in this opening sequence. They start of the sequence by giving the three most important rules to follow when a zombie apocalypse is coming. There were in very big, bold letters on the screen I did not consider these to be titles since they were not credits. If in fact they are titles there would be 18 titles in that case. Zombies are the main characters in the movie. There were many people getting eaten and chased by the zombies. This adds a sense of not only horror but humor as well. It adds humor because the producers created the scene where people are dying to be comedic. For example, one of the people who got killed was killed by falling through the toilet then getting eaten. This is set out to be comedic. There is also a lot of action in the opening with all the people running everywhere. This also adds some mystery because we are unsure why the zombies have attacked or what has happen  to create the situation the main characters are in now. This questions will be answered later on in the movie. These questions are helping the audience stay engaged and focused on the movie. Technology was used to create the visuals of the zombies. The technology also helped film and edit the entire opening. There were a few slow motions in the opening as well as a few long shots

Title Research : Deadpool

The third movie title I researched was  Deadpool. Like 21 Jump Street and Back to the Future I watched it on Art of the Title.  There were 13 different titles. This titles were not like normal titles. They used comedy in the titling to add along to the comedic affect of the entire movie. For example of one of the titles said ," produced by a*shats," or "directed by jerks." This is a very unique way of doing titles but it catches the audience's attention. This goes along with the theme of the movie. The opening sequence shows a lot of dead people.  We see a man in a red super hero suit ( Deadpool) walking around the area of the accident. We can infer that Deadpool probably killed  them. I was able to infer this because there was a car that was exploding and on fire. Everyone around the car is dead besides Deadpool.  I can tell that this movie is has a lot of action. The dead people add a little mystery just because we don't know exactly why they are dead or how they died. We can just infer based off of the opening sequence. There are many questions that can be asked such as why is the car on fire or who is Deadpool and what is his background. These are the types of questions the audience members ask when they are watching the opening. It makes the audience curious and wanting to watch more. The technology has been used efficiently throughout the opening segments. The technology helped create the comedic and action elements of the opening that make us as the audience interested in the movie. The camera angles and movement  in this opening include a few high angles and a few low angles. There were multiple jump cuts as well as pan and tracking shots. The technology was used to create these effects in the movie.

Title Research : 21 Jump Street

The second movie I researched was 21 jump street in and we watched this title on Art of the Title. The opening sequence has 21 different titles. I am not sure if this was planned out since the movie is called 21 jump street or it was a plain coincidence. The opening sequence is full of different images. The three main images shown are guns, drugs, and explosions. These images can give us an idea about what the movie is about.  I can tell the movie is very action packed and high energy. The images also have some comedic moments which relates to the the genre of the movie. The opening sequence also adds a little bit of mystery since us as the audience doesn't exactly know what is going on. We can just infer based off the images. As the watcher I am curious about the movie. I am curious to see how they incorporate the beginning images tie along to the entire film.  The action packed title defiantly makes the audience want more. Technology was incorporated into the film in many different ways. The filming and the editing all used technology. This technology is crucial to the movie and is especially important to creating a title sequence. Without the technology the title sequence would seize to exist. The movie title producers spent a long time working on this particular sequence. They did a very good job since the title alone left me wanting more. There were a few camera angles and movements. There were a few high and low angles, as well as mid shots and long shots. The camera was often at eye level to add depth to the images.

Title Research: Back to the Future

The first movie opening sequence we watched was Back to the Future. We watched this tittle on Art of the Title. The opening sequence had 16 different titles.  There is some action with the character turning on machines. The audience is a little confused since they don't know exactly is going on. We see a lot of clocks and machinery. There was also lady on the news talking about stolen plutonium. Later we see the plutonium under neath the counter. The clocks add a sense of mystery and go along with the title "Back to the Future."The emphasis on the clocks can tell us that time plays an important role in the part in the movie. The machines and the clocks add to the action of the movie. How the camera focuses on the clocks makes the watcher interested. Also the stolen plutonium the audience has to infer what that is going to be used for and what the purpose is. The mystery aspect of the opening keeps watchers interested. The technology was used effectively was used in he editing and the filming. There were a few close ups, the entire opening was one long pan shot. There was a jup cut between the rooms with the clocks.

Watch the Tittles

This is another title website called Watch the Titles. This is very similar to the Art of the Title. Both of these websites work in the same way. They are a platform to view movie tittles to gain ideas for our own titles in the future. From these websites I am able to learn and gain knowledge about the art of titling. These websites are very important and helpful because many of the students have not ever worked with movie titles. I have been able to learn about a lot about creating a title and the background on them. This picture is the home page for when you log onto Watch the Title.

Art of the Tittle

We are researching tittles because in order to film and produce our movie to the highest quality. The tittles in a movie in chance the movie. A bad tittle can lead to a bad movie. The tittle sets the scene and creates the mood for the entire movie. A title is defined as written material to be read by viewers that is included in a film or television show, typically presenting credits, narration, and or dialogue. A tittle is related to the context of the movie.. There are multiple different jobs in Hollywood that are just for the sole purpose of creating movie tittles. Each tittle is unique which make the entire movie unique. Art of the tittle is a website that allows us to watch a bunch of different movie tittles from popular films. This allows us to gain ideas for our own production.

Genre Research : Ride Along 2

The last movie I researched was Ride Along 2. This is also a comedy.  The conventions are very similar to the other three movies I discussed. Some of the things that are different include the editing techniques. Some of the camera angles and shots are also different. This movie has a lot of dialogue as well.
There were a lot of camera movements ,angles, and shots. Some of this include high angle, low angle, gods eye view,  and over the shoulder shots, wide shot, action matches, slow motion and a few eye line matches.   Pan and tracking shots again were very popular and frequently used throughout the entire movie. Mid shots and long shots were used quite frequently as well.
There was a lo of digetic sound and non- digetic sound. Ambient sound was also used. Ambient sound was not used in the other three films so in that sense this movie is a little different. Jump cuts and zoom were also popular. There were also establishing shots. Ride Along 2 takes place in both Miami and Atlanta.

Genre Research : Isn't it Romantic

The third movie I researched was Isn't it Romantic. Like the other two films I researched this is also a comedy. Once again I have to go over the conventions in this movie. All of the conventions are very similar since they are all comedy ,but there are a few differences for each specific movie. The editing techniques are all very similar. The camera angles are also very similar. Some of the camera movements are similar but there are a few differences.
Like Long Shot this movie had a lot of dialogue similar to the other two movies.  The main character is always in the most dialogue. There was a lot of natural lighting as  well as artificial lighting. The lighting was mostly soft. Again the camera shots were very similar to the other films. There were establishing shots which was mostly in the beginning of the film.
There were a ton of different angles. There were high angles, eye-level angles and low angles. There was also many different shots such as mid shot, long shot, shot reverse shot, over the shoulder shot, and wide shot. There were a few jump cuts. Similar to the other two movies pan and tracking shots were extremely popular.

Genre Research : Long shot

The second movie I researched was Long Shot. Like Secret Life of Pets 2 this was also a comedy. The conventions in this movie is similar to the other film since they both fall into the comedy genre. Some of the camera shots and angles are the same as well as some of the editing and sound in the movie. The first 30 minutes of the movie was very good. It set the scene for the rest of the movie very well.  Similar to the last movie Long Shot also had a good amount of conventions. There is a lot of dialogue in this film. The movie is driven by dialogue.
Since the movie is very driven by the dialogue there are very little scenes with no dialogue. There were a couple of voice overs in the film.  There was also a lot of diegetic sound but not as much non- diegetic sound. This movie had jump cuts and shot reverse shots. There was also tracking and pan shots. Like the first movie these two shots were the popular and were used the most in the movie. There were just a few overheard shots as well as some eye level shots. Low shots were also used and were also used frequently.   There was one flashback in the film. During the flashback scene there was a fade in.

Genre Research : Secret Life of Pets 2

The first movie I researched in the comedy genre was Secret Life of Pets. Since our final genre is comedy I watched movies in the comedy genre. I will go over the conventions of the movies. This involves editing techniques. I would also like to include things you would normally find in a comedy, which is the conventions. This movie had a bunch of dialogue, but the dialogue was more between the animals of the movie then the humans. The humans play a very small role in the movie as all of the main characters are pets.
In this movie there were many jump cuts as well as few eye line matches.  There was also some pan and some tracking shots. In the movie these two shots were probably used most frequently. Both pan and tracking were used throughout the entire movie they were seen the most in the beginning of the film. There was also a few cutaways.
Throughout the movie there were a few voice overs. These voice overs mostly came fro the main character, Snowball. There was a lot of  non - dietetic sound throughout the film. There was not much dietetic sound though. Along the movie there was a lot of background music. This helped the movie flow better. There were many different camera shots as well. This includes low angles, high angles and a few establishing shots.

Genre Research : Our Final Genre ( Comedy )

My partner and I have decided on a genre. That genre is comedy. We decided on comedy because we like it better then the other genres. We also had more knowledge about comedy then the other genres. We thought it would be the easier to create a comedy film then say a horror film. Comedy allows us to be creative and have fun with it. That is one the things I like most about Comedy ; the fun aspect of it. These reasons are the main reasons we choose to create a comedy film

Genre Research : Comedy

This is a genre power point I worked on early on in the school year.  This was my first project in AICE media class. This was our first dive into the process and elements of movie making. For this project everyone was assigned a movie genre. Me and my partner , Kol, were assigned the comedy genre.  This is the power point we created.

Picking our final pitch

In this blog we will be narrowing our three final pitch ideas down to one. In my previous blog I talked about our pitch ideas. I am going to  quickly recap our three original pitch ideas. One of our pitches is about a stalker story. Another pitch is a robbery idea with a house maid. And our final pitch idea is a romance between two best friends. We have decided to get rid of our stalker pitch idea. This idea isn't as strong the other choices in our opinion. We just came up with the stalker story as more of a backup choice. We believe we can create a much better film with the other two ideas rather then this one.
One of our pitch ideas is a robbery story. Here is our pitch, a very wealthy family hires a new house cleaner. She ends up stealing all of the families wealth, but will she get caught? It sounds like a very simple and boring  pitch but, the film will be everything besides boring. By the end of the two minutes you will be hungry for more.  This concept kinda just came to us naturally. We were bouncing a lot of ideas off of each other and I said what about if we did a robbery. After a lot of discussion we thought of the maid idea and decided to stick with it. It was very challenging coming up with a concept that hasn't really been done before
Another pitch idea is a romance story. Here is our pitch, two best friends since birth but, one of the has secret crush on the the other. Will she confess her feelings or keep them a secret.  We came up with this idea because we thought it might be easy to create. This was the final pitch that we came up with. We already had the robbery and the stalker idea thought of. We thought romance would not be a genre many people would use. Since romance is such a broad topic we were able to think of many different ideas.
We decided to go with the robbery pitch. We decided to go with this one because we believe we can make the best movie with this. Better then the romance one. This pitch is simple but yet intriguing. We can dive deep into this pitch.

Starting the final task

Hello! My name is Julia M and I am reintroducing myself since it has been almost a month since my last blog. I am a freshmen at Fort Lauderdale High School in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. I am in the Cambridge magnet program. I am in the AICE media studies class. This is my first time taking a media class. For this upcoming project I will be working with a partner, Kol B. Kol and I have worked together for the previous projects. Kol is also a freshmen in the Cambridge program.
We have worked well together in the past so we decided to work together again.
Leading up to our final task project I have had some practice to prepare for this final project.  I have created a commercial and a music video. I have become comfortable with the equipment such as the camera and the editing software. I have learned how to come up with a plan and create a storyboard. I have learned to film with the video cameras and edit on Pinnacle Studios. I have also learned more about camera angles and shots. I have learned about what it takes to film a blockbuster movie.  I am excited to be able to actually make a movie. I will be able to use my creativity and think of my own personal concept.
We are at the first step in the film making process right now. Creating a pitch. A pitch is a Hollywood term to describe an idea. The film idea is encapsulated into twenty five words. Kol and I have come up with three different pitch ideas for our film. Our first pitch idea is, there's a new neighbor and he sees the girl next door. They become friends overnight but the boy becomes overly attached and follows her every move. Our second pitch idea is, a very wealthy family hires a new house cleaner. She ends up stealing all of the families wealth, but will she get caught? Our final pitch idea is , Two best friends since birth but , one of them has a secret crush on the other, will she confess her feeling or keep them a secret.
